How many photos does an Airbnb listing need?
Aim for 15–25. Airbnb's technical minimum is five, Booking.com asks for at least ten, and listings with a complete photo tour (every room covered, plus the details) get more saves and more bookings than sparse ones. More than 40 and guests stop scrolling.

The numbers that matter
- Airbnb minimum: 5 photos to publish. Minimum size 1024 × 683 px; bigger is better.
- Booking.com: at least 10, ideally 4 per room plus the bathroom, landscape only.
- Stayz / Vrbo: minimum 6, horizontal, ideally 3840 × 2160 or larger.
- What works: 15–25 for a one to three bedroom place, up to 30–40 for a large house with outdoor areas. Past that, guests stop scrolling and the weak photos drag down the strong ones.
The first five do most of the work
Your first photo is the search-result thumbnail. The first five are the cover set a guest sees before they tap through. Choose them like this:
- The single best shot of the main living space or the view. Not the exterior, not the bathroom.
- The main bedroom, bed made hotel-style.
- The kitchen or dining area.
- The standout feature: balcony, pool, bath, fireplace, whatever makes this place different.
- Exterior or building, so guests recognise it on arrival.
Every room needs at least one
Airbnb now auto-sorts listing photos into a room-by-room photo tour. A room with no photo doesn't appear in the tour, and a guest who can't see the second bedroom assumes something is wrong with it. Cover every bedroom, every bathroom, the kitchen, living and dining, laundry if there is one, outdoor space, parking, and the entry or lockbox so check-in is obvious.
What to include beyond the rooms
- Workspace and the Wi-Fi router (remote workers filter for it).
- Coffee machine, kettle, a stocked pantry shelf.
- Bathroom details: towels folded, toiletries out.
- Cot, high chair or anything else you list as an amenity.
- Two or three local shots: the street, the beach, the tram stop.
Things that cost you bookings
- Portrait-orientation photos. They crop badly in search and in the tour.
- Watermarks, logos or text on images. Airbnb's guidelines prohibit them.
- Collages and heavy HDR. Both read as "cheap listing".
- Photos from your phone mixed with professional ones. The phone shots win attention for the wrong reason.
